Goshen's public works crew was first on everyone's thank you list after the 37th
annual Goshen Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning.

With eight inches of wet, heavy snow covering the Goshen Fairgrounds on Wednesday
evening, the 6.2-mile race could have been in jeopardy of not being held. But the public works
crew and their plow trucks stepped up to clear roads and parking areas at the fairgrounds,
cleared a trail through Camp Cochipianee, and sanded icy areas on the roads on the out and back course.
Race director Roger Kimball of the Goshen Running Club praised public works Supervisor
Edward Perry and his workers for the job they did after their regular routine of clearing town roads.

Perry met with Kinball and his parents, Tony and Johanna,
early in the week to discuss a storm strategy.

"This was the most challenging race to put on in recent history," Roger Kimball said.
"Fortunately the timing of the storm was good. It was over by (Wednesday)
night and that gave us time to clear the fairgrounds."

More than 500 runners showed up for the traditional Thanksgiving jaunt on the demanding course.
Brandon LeClair, 17, of Goshen, was first in 37:32, Conor Courtney, 16, of Litchfield, second in 37:54,
and Jackson Morrow, 17, of Harwinton, third in 38:26. All three run for the Litchfield Track Club,
and Leclair and Courtney will represent the club at the national Junior Olympics Cross-Country
Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Dec. 13.

Leclair, a junior at Wamogo, pulled away at 3 miles and was never challenged.
Jim Zoldy, 51, of Goshen was fourth in 38:47.

For winning the race, Leclair received a medal and an Adam Laschever Memorial Cup,
which goes to the first male and female finishers. He also brought home a
Nodine's turkey for being the first male Goshen finisher.

Addie DiFrancesco, 24, of Waterbury, won her third Laschever Cup with a women's
winning time of 39:47. She won the race in 2008 and 2009. Christina Wickson, 31,
of Southbury, was the second woman, in 41:09.

The first Goshen female finisher and winner of a
Nodine's turkey was Deborah Roy. Her time was 52:09.

The 37th annual Goshen Turkey Trot is underway.

Rick Judd of Litchfield is in the middle of the pack as the race starts.
