In its eighth year, the Girls Just Wanna Run race sponsored by the
Junior Women’s Club of the Litchfield Hills is bigger and better than ever.

Sunday's race drew 300 women and girls for an out and back
3.1-mile trek on North Shore Road. The event was a fundraiser for the
Junior Women's Club and will benefit the many local causes the club supports.

The race was directed by Junior Women's Club member
 Lisa Curtiss, who said she was pleased with the turnout,
the community support and the spirit of the participants.

The winner of the race was Morris native Madeleine Marecki
in a time of 19:44. Marecki was running the race fr the first time.
Gabriel Vega of Torrington was second in 20:57.
Sherri Odell of Litchfield, seven and a half
months pregnant, was fourth in 22:26.

The Girls Just Wanna Run 5k Race is a fundraising charity event
focusing on health and wellness in girls and women. Walkers, joggers,
 runners, girls and women of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate!

Course Information
This is a USATF Certified Race Course (code CT12014JHP).
The start/finish line is located close to the
back entrance of the Litchfield Athletic Club on
Old CT Route 25 (the back access road behind the Club).

Runners & walkers will start down North Shore Road,
along beautiful Bantam Lake.

The course runs to the end of North Shore Road,
turning around and continuing back along North Shore Road;
 turning left back onto Old CT Route 25 to the finish line.

Parking is at the Bantam River Corporate Park,
located next to the Litchfield Athletic Club
on Route 202 in Litchfield.
** No dogs or roller blades/skates.**

Ladies have their way in Girls Just Wanna Run race

Girls Just Wanna Run road race in Litchfield on Sunday.

Women had North Shore Road all to themselves
for a short time Sunday as the
Junior Women's Club of the Litchfield Hills
held its annual Girls Just Wanna Run race.



The 3.1-mile run and walk drew 205 participants.
The fastest was Sherri Odell of Litchfield,
who blazed to a first-place finish of 20:19.
Gabrielle Vega of Torrington was second in 22:03
and Courtney Dalke of Litchfield third in 22:08.

Sue Breakell of Goshen was among the walkers.

5th Annual Girls Just Wanna Run-Walk 5K

The fifth annual Girls Just Wanna Run 5K race drew 467 runners and walkers on Sunday.


The Junior Women's Club of the Litchfield Hills sponsored the race and was
expecting toraise between $8,000 and $9,000. All of the proceeds will
be donated to community causes the club supports.

Carrie Hladik and Suzanne Atwood served as co-directors of the race for the first time
and were assisted by a group of club members that began working on the race in January.

The race began at North Shore Road and Route 202 and followed North Shore to
Route 209 before returning to the finish on the access road behind the Litchfield Athletic Club.

Emily Medonis of Bethlehem was the winner in 21:58. Hailey Hock, a junior at the
Forman School in Litchfield, was second in 22:27. Participants were a glamourous
bunch with their pink clothing, tiaras and tutus.
Janice Connor of Goshen won the most glamourous award.
