Sandy Beach kicks off summer season with social (06-26-17)

What is expected to be one of the best summers in memory
at Sandy Beach began with a social on Saturday evening.

Sandy Beach Commission members and the beach's new manager,
Todd Dyer, were on hand to welcome beach passholders
and serve complimentary hamburgers and hot dogs.

The social gave passholders a chance to see the new bathrooms
in the beach's main building. The bathrooms were built last fall and
winter and replace the abominable portable toilets that were used for years.
Dyer and his staff of lifeguards have been working hard to improve
the condition of the beach, which was impeccably groomed for the social.

It was a picture-perfect evening on Bantam Lake.

Jodi Tenney of Cups and Cones in Litchfield served ice cream.

The Sandy Beach Commission has welcomed Todd Dyer
as its new beach manager for the summer season.

Dyer, a Litchfield resident, brings many years of recreation management
to the position. For the previous 20 years, he managed the beach
at the Lake Quassapaug Outing Club in Middlebury. He also worked
as a lifeguard at Day Pond State Park in Colchester and was the swim coach
at Shepaug Valley High School, where he is the director of school counseling.

Sandy Beach opens fulltime this weekend and will host a social
for beach season passholders Saturday at 5 p.m. The social will
feature a cookout and a dance hosted by WZBG FM 97.3.

Under Dyer's lead, it's shaping up to be a big summer at the beach,
where new bathrooms are in use. The bathrooms were part of a renovation
of the beach's main building last fall and winter. Dyer and his staff of lifeguards
have been painting the walls and floor of the inside of the building.

Sandy Beach is located on East Shore Road in Morris, CT.
The beach is operated by the Sandy Beach Commission which is
comprised of members from the towns of Morris and Litchfield.
The property and buildings are owned by the White Memorial Foundation.

Sandy Beach offers  a beautiful sandy beach with lifeguard protected swimming,
swim instructions, changing rooms, volleyball, basketball, lakeside access to boaters,
shady picnic areas, a canoe launch, a snack shack, fishing areas, and a float with slide.
